A2 exam format

A2 theoretical exam at AESA: 30 questions, 30 minutes. All questions are single-correct-answer from four options. The exam is computer-based.

Compare with A1/A3: 40 questions, 45 minutes. A2 additionally covers meteorology (6–8 questions), human factors and aircraft performance.

Time management in the exam

30 questions in 30 minutes = 1 minute per question. This is not generous — time pressure is a common reason for failure among candidates who have not practised under timed conditions.

Strategy: first pass — answer all questions you are confident about. Mark uncertain ones and return later. The countdown timer is always visible on screen.

Effective exam strategy

Answer easy questions first — it improves confidence and saves time for harder ones. Devote remaining minutes to uncertain questions. If time allows, review flagged ones.

Do not spend more than 2 minutes on any single question. Mark it and move on — answering 28 correctly is better than deliberating too long on 2 difficult ones.

Timed mocks as the best preparation

The most effective preparation for the real exam is 5–10 full timed mock tests. The A2STS platform provides 30-question, 30-minute timed tests with a visible countdown.

After each mock, analyse: how long did you spend per question on average? If more than 1 minute — you need more timed practice.

Can I pause or stop the A2 exam mid-way?

No. The exam runs continuously — the timer only stops when you submit or time expires.

How many questions must I answer correctly to pass?

≥75% — that is 23 out of 30 questions. You can get up to 7 wrong and still pass.
