How to prepare for the A2 drone exam: a practical plan

The A2 exam is 30 questions in 30 minutes, with a 75% pass threshold. With structured preparation, most pilots pass on the first or second attempt.

1. Where to start your preparation

A2 preparation begins by checking your A1/A3 foundation and mapping out the topics. This start lets you immediately see where your knowledge is lacking.

Starting without structure usually wastes a lot of time. So it is worth setting a weekly cycle and clear progress criteria from the outset.

2. A 4–6 week training schedule

Spend the first two weeks on theory and thematic tests, weeks three to four on fuller timed blocks. If needed, use weeks five to six to stabilise your results.

The most important thing is a weekly progress review, adjusting your plan based on real mistakes rather than a subjective feeling.

3. How to use full simulations

Simulations should recreate the real format: 30 questions in 30 minutes with no pauses. This mode builds not only knowledge but reaction speed.

After every simulation, analyse your mistakes by topic. Without this step, the same error pattern will repeat in the real exam.

4. Working on your weak topics

Most points are usually lost in meteorology and battery safety. Targeted return to these topics gives the biggest effect in the shortest time.

A2STS analytics let you see recurring mistakes and choose precisely what to review. This saves time and builds confidence before the exam.

5. A checklist before the official exam

Before registering, confirm that you have at least 3 successful full sessions scoring ≥80%. This buffer is the most effective in practice.

On the final day, choose light revision and rest over cramming new material. A calm, organised candidate answers more accurately.
