DJI drone registration and licence in Europe

Every DJI model has different weight and equipment — so EASA registration and licence requirements differ. Select your aircraft below for a model-specific guide.

1. Why a DJI hub — not one article for every model

DJI spans 135 g Neo to multi-kilogram Matrice platforms. EASA requirements depend on mass, camera, C class and how you fly — not the brand alone.

Per-model guides match search intent and reduce mistakes between hobby Open rules and enterprise STS.

This hub links every DJI model guide, core NAA registration rules and A2STS exam preparation.

2. Core EASA rule in 2026

Register as operator and register the UAS when over 250 g OR carrying a camera/audio sensor.

Certificate level (A1/A3, A2, STS) follows the operation — not only the aircraft.

Open category: VLOS, 120 m AGL, respect geo-zones in your member state.

3. DJI Mini series (C0, 249 g)

Mini 4 Pro, Mini 3 Pro, Mini 3, Mini 2 SE, Mini 4K, Mini 2, Flip — typically 248–249 g with camera. Registration required because of the camera.

A1/A3 covers most hobby flying. A2 when flying under A2 subcategory rules near people.

Neo at 135 g — special case without camera; A1/A3 still required for legal flight.

4. DJI Air and Mavic (C1/C2)

Air 2S, Air 3, Air 3S, Mavic 3 Classic, Mavic 3 Pro, Mavic 4 Pro — 595–958 g, registration mandatory.

A2 often recommended for closer operations with C1/C2 aircraft.

Professional urban filming still requires geo-zone compliance.

5. DJI FPV line

Avata and Avata 2 — C0 with prop guards; goggles do not replace VLOS in Open category.

DJI FPV legacy and O4 modules — register the UAS; A1/A3 baseline.

Goggles are accessories — the pilot remains responsible.

6. Enterprise: Matrice, Inspire, Phantom

See the enterprise hub for Matrice 4, 350 RTK, 400, 30 series, Inspire 3/2, Phantom 4.

Commercial work usually Specific category or STS.

7. Step-by-step NAA registration

Create operator account → register each UAS with manufacturer DJI, model and serial → affix operator number on the aircraft.

Usually free or low-cost in EU states.

8. Certificate path

Beginners: A1/A3 online exam. Near people with C1/C2: add A2. Commercial: A2 + STS + operational authorisation.

9. Geo-zones before every flight

Use your national UTM map. DJI Fly geo awareness is helpful but not a legal substitute.

10. C class and Remote ID

Newer DJI models carry C0–C4 marking. Remote ID rules depend on class and date of manufacture.

Exam tip

11. Common mistakes

Flying without A1/A3 because the Mini is light.

Registering operator only, not each UAS.

FPV goggles without a spotter in Open category.

Frequently asked questions

Do all DJI drones need the same certificate?
No. Mini C0 often needs A1/A3 only; Air/Mavic C1/C2 may need A2 near people; enterprise needs STS/Specific.
Where do I register a DJI drone in the EU?
With your National Aviation Authority — one operator account, register each UAS.
Does the DJI Mini 4 Pro need registration?
Yes — 249 g with a camera triggers registration in EU member states.
