Open category

Subcategories A1, A2 and A3 define how close you may fly to people. A1/A3 certificate is the entry point.

C0–C4 aircraft classes

Your drone's class label determines which subcategory you may use. Check the manual and EU class database.

When you need Specific category

BVLOS, flights over assemblies of people or complex urban ops usually exceed Open limits — STS or operational authorisation required.

Where to start

A1/A3 exam → register if required → practise in geo-zone apps → add A2 if needed.
