Drone insurance — what you need to know
EASA: you must have insurance if your drone weighs more than 20 kg. For lighter drones, many Member States still require third-party cover — check national rules. This page does not invent premiums or coverage bands.
Is it mandatory?
- MTOM > 20 kg — yes (EASA FAQ)
- Lighter — no single EU “everyone must insure” rule; national law / 785/2004 / contracts may still apply
- Clients may require a policy even when the law does not
What liability cover is for
Typically third-party injury and property damage. Hull cover for the aircraft is often separate. Read your policy.
