FPV goggles and the rules

Goggles change how you fly but not EASA responsibilities — know VLOS and geo-zones.

Goggles and VLOS

FPV goggles give the pilot a view but do not remove VLOS requirements in the Open category.

Digital goggles (DJI, Walksnail, HDZero) pair with matching VTX — licence rules stay the same.

Distances and people

A1/A3 restricts flight over people; A2 allows closer operations with C2 and extra conditions.

A spotter helps maintain situational awareness when the pilot sees only the screen.

Registration

DJI Avata, Walksnail or custom 5" — if >250 g with camera, register with your NAA.

Frequently asked questions

Can I fly goggles-only?
Open category needs VLOS — typically a spotter or unaided sight alongside goggles.
Do goggles change the weight threshold?
No — take-off mass includes all mounted equipment.
